With many different styles, patterns and colours to choose from, carpet allows you to create a home of real distinction. Carpets are renowned for their warmth, comfort, durability, superior noise reducing and insulating qualities. Below is some information to help you with your decision.
Man Made Carpets
The first nylon carpets were found to flatten more easily than wool. Companies such as Mohawk voraciously set about improving nylon fibres which has resulted in a fantastic product difference today. Fibres started to be extruded as pentagonal and octagonal profiles which virtually eliminated stain magnification and the artificial shine associated with man made fibres.
Natural Fibre Carpets
Make an architectural statement with our extensive naturals collection. Choose from seagrass, sisal, coir and jute. Invite a world of monsoon-grown grasses, Goan beaches and coconut husks into your home. Natural flooring looks great, but its the feeling inside that really counts.
Wool has excellent durability, can be dyed easily and is fairly abundant. When blended with synthetic fibres such as nylon the durability of wool is increased. Blended wool yarns are extensively used in production of modern carpet, with the most common blend being 80% wool to 20% synthetic fibre, giving rise to the term "80/20". Wool is relatively expensive and consequently a small portion of the market.
All the floorcoverings labelled hand-woven have been created on traditional wooden looms. These need no electricity with the weavers manually moving the wooden frames and the shuttle to interweave the yarn over thin metal 'rods'. When removed these rods create a 'loop' as seen in designs such as Abha, or are cut and hand sheared into 'Velvet'. All our hand-woven designs are backed with latex to secure the pile, then checked and hand-finished.
